Cleaning Up

As much as cooking is fun cleaning up is unfortunately a part of it also. Wouldn’t we all like a staff like Rachel Ray has to clean up after her.

Yesterday I set out to clean my stove top. The top is glass and the burner grates are cast iron. I disassembled the burners and set to work. Glass was hard enough, but the burner grates…ARRGGHH! I did some research online and found a great solution to clean them.

Here is a before and after shot of the grates. The clean one was soaked in an ammonia /water mix in a bucket overnight (4 cups ammonia in 3 gallons of water) and cleaned up with a green scotch brite pad.

Here are the burners unassembled.

Whew! A pic of three finished and two to go.
