The Waukegan downtown is kind of depressed, many empty store windows many businesses have closed. In the middle of all this stands a Chinese restaurant called Fong’s. This is where we found ourselves last night. I was pleasantly surprised. The food was fresh and delicious and the staff were helpful and friendly. I had Mongolian beef and my husband had a combo dish of sweet and sour shrimp and chicken. Let’s support our local community businesses!
Our second and third nights of our cross-country trip we stayed in Rock Springs,WY. Here we had a two meals, dinner and breakfast at a spot called Winger’s Bar and Grill. The food was excellent. The atmosphere was loose and included popcorn brought to your table.
I enjoyed the Sticky Fingers Dinner (chicken tenderloins) with there Amazing Sauce. It was both sweet and hot and very good. We each brought a bottle of it home. The portion was large enough and served with baked beans and mashed red potatoes(my choice).
Kerrie had Blackened Chicken Alfredo with garlic bread and salad. She also loved her dish and the portion was large enough to take some bk to the room for later.
Wingers has great breakfasts too! Chuck had a six ounce sirloin steak, hash browns and scrambled eggs. He enjoyed it although the steak was a bit gristly.
I had chicken fried steak, which was delicious and LARGE, eggs over easy and pancakes. Very yummy but I could not finish it because of the huge portions. I recommend splitting a meal with a friend at this restaurant 🙂
We would both recommend visiting a location on your travels or near you.
My brother and I have spent the last week driving a moving truck from Chicago IL to Monterey CA. Our first stop was in Kearney, NE where we stopped at the Thunderhead Brewing Company. We really enjoyed their calzones. Chuck had one called The Usual Zone, which was filled with Italian sausage, pepperoni, portabella mushrooms and marinara sauce. The sauce was very good!
I tried the Bierock, which was stuffed with seasoned ground beef and sauerkraut . It had a very mild flavor and I preferred to eat it plain rather than with the spicy mustard that came on the side. Both were delicious, especially the buttery crust; I would love to have that recipe.
I was busy tonight so I stopped by Dengeo”s in Skokie for take out din din. Its a great place when you want a burger with a home grilled taste, a greek salad… pasta.. gyros.. and beyond. Everything has kind of a greek flair..
I am on a low carb diet so ordered the gyros plate, and when they asked about fries, I said no thanks I cant…they bent over backward offering me extra salad, grilled veggies, etc… I settled on the grilled zucchini and peppers. I really like this place and would recommend it to anyone who wants something really yummy , pretty fast, and is willing to pay a couple extra bucks.
Walker Brothers is one of my favorite restaurants. They have all kinds of unique and delicious pancakes and crepes, as well as other entrees. The original one on Green Bay road is really beautiful with Tiffany lamps and windows everywhere. Be prepared for a long line outside especially if you go on a weekend.
This is Cheryl and my favorite mexican style restaurant in Southern California.
